XY Evolutions was released in 2016 as a direct 20th-anniversary tribute to the original 1999 Base Set, reprinting its most iconic cards, including a new holographic Charizard, in the modern XY card frame. It was explicitly marketed as a limited-run nostalgia product rather than an ongoing set, which capped its total print volume from the start. A sealed six-box case is now one of the most valuable sealed case-level products in the modern Pokémon TCG market, with recent tracked pricing near $15,400. Because it directly reprises Base Set nostalgia while remaining far more accessible at original retail cost than 1999 sealed product, it became an instant target for both nostalgia collectors and investors as soon as supply dried up. Case-quantity sealed product is now especially hard to source intact, since most retailers only ever received small allocations.
